Over the years, the t-shirt has evolved into a garment that has nothing to do with its original purpose. When it was first created, it was worn as an undergarment. Today, the t-shirt is a versatile top with multiple functions that is worn with pride. Choosing clothing — and in particular a t-shirt — for your little girl requires taking a number of elements into account. Are you new parents who don’t yet know the ropes? Are you unsure what makes an ideal t-shirt for your daughter? Would you like to know how to spot a high-quality t-shirt? In this article, you’ll find our advice on making the best choice for your children.

T-shirt styles

Being fashionable is very important for teenagers but also for little girls. From a young age, little girls begin to express their tastes, which are often influenced by their surroundings — cartoons or friends. That’s why it’s important to choose colours and prints that go perfectly with the rest of the outfit, whether it’s jeans, shorts, smart trousers or even tracksuit bottoms for your little girl. A girls’ t-shirt can be worn every day or used as a stylish piece for special occasions. Timeless and unmissable, it comes in short sleeves, three-quarter sleeves or long sleeves depending on the season. It can also be paired with other outfits for a truly “in” look. A girls’ t-shirt is a versatile piece that suits little girls perfectly. A long-sleeved girls’ t-shirt, for example, is perfect combined with trousers and a coat for an elegant and modern look, or with jeans and a zip-up jumper for a stylish touch.

The most popular styles

● A plain-coloured t-shirt is the most classic piece in your little girl’s wardrobe, as it can work with any style. ● A bright, vibrant or sequinned t-shirt pairs very well with a more understated colourful base. ● A printed t-shirt adds a touch of fun. Graphics, various slogans, cartoon-style designs — the options are endless. Depending on the size of the print, it may be best to pair it with plain-coloured bottoms. While style is important, it should never come at the expense of your little girl’s comfort.

T-shirt comfort

Children are very active, running around and playing outdoors in all weathers. They need to feel free in their movements and have clothing suited to their activities. Here are some of the qualities that will make a t-shirt comfortable for your little girl. It should be easy to put on and take off, so your little one can learn to be independent. It shouldn’t be too tight or too loose, so she isn’t restricted from sitting, running, jumping or lying on the floor. It’s important to opt for breathable fabrics suited to your little girl’s boundless energy. The choice of t-shirt should also be appropriate for the season and the area where you live. Avoid chills by opting for a long-sleeved t-shirt for your little girl. Finally, for babies, choose girls’ t-shirts with simple fastenings such as velcro.

T-shirt quality

One of the most important things when buying a t-shirt for your daughter is to ensure its quality. Our children move about constantly and aren’t always careful. As a result, the clothes they wear need to be very durable and easy to care for — frequent washing should not damage the garment (in terms of fabric or colour).

GSM (weight)

GSM refers to the weight of the t-shirt per square metre. The higher the weight, the thicker and denser the fabric, and the more robust the t-shirt will be. This ranges from 125 g/m² for the lightest options up to 220 g/m². The lightest, between 125 g/m² and 145 g/m², is a very thin t-shirt — generally cheaper and quite transparent. This type only lasts a few washes before it starts to pill or lose its shape. The mid-range weight, between 145 and 165 g/m², is a “standard” t-shirt. It’s more opaque than the lighter option, but not too thick. Finally, between 165 and 220 g/m², you have a thick, sturdy t-shirt.

Composition

As your little girl’s skin is in direct contact with the fabric, it’s important to pay attention to the composition. Many t-shirts are treated with chemicals during manufacturing. These can cling to our children’s skin and even cause allergic reactions. We advise avoiding synthetic materials such as polyester, modal and viscose, which prevent your children’s bodies from breathing. To protect the sensitive skin of our little ones, we recommend prioritising natural fibres over artificial ones. A fabric made from cotton with a little elastane gives the t-shirt stretch. A 100% cotton t-shirt remains the most popular fabric and the best choice for your children’s skin — particularly for your little girls.

The weave

For our children, we want t-shirts that are very soft. Softness depends not only on the composition but also on the weave. This can be carded or combed. The first uses short fibres, making it cheaper to produce. The second uses long, combed fibres, resulting in a very soft finish.

The cut

Girls’ t-shirts can be fitted, straight-cut or oversized. The neckline, which can be round, should be slightly wide to leave enough space between the collar and the fabric, or a V-neck for a less classic style for your baby girl.

Colour

We all have the classic image in mind: pink for our little darling. However, it’s worth broadening the palette. We can offer our children a hugely varied range of colours — so why not? Be creative and mix and match colours; it also encourages your little angel to be creative. As you may have gathered, a t-shirt should above all be comfortable and practical for your little girl. However, it should also appeal to her. Depending on her age, you can involve her in choosing her outfit. Our online shop also offers skirts, leggings and other girls’ clothing.
