How to Choose a Girls’ Nursery School Bag?
At the start of this first school year, it’s important to make the right choice of school bag, suited to the class, age and build of your child. Your daughter will be guided mainly by the overall design of the bag — the patterns or the colour. As parents, we still have a few criteria to consider in order to make the perfect purchase. For nursery, the best choice is a lightweight school backpack, well adapted to your child’s size, practical with few pockets, and ergonomic.
What Size Bag Should You Choose for Your Daughter?
Your daughter’s bag should never be wider than her shoulders. For little girls in the younger nursery groups, we recommend a backpack 27 to 34 cm tall and no more than 25 cm wide. Most of the time, for the older nursery group, you’ll be asked for a bag that can hold an A4 notebook (24 x 32 cm). From that point, it’s time for a larger backpack, 35 to 38 cm tall and 26 to 30 cm wide. The advantage of a bag this size is that it is perfectly compatible with the transition to primary school, when books, copybooks and other supplies come into the picture. At nursery, supplies tend to stay in the classroom and only come home during the holidays. A nursery bag mainly serves as a snack bag, with perhaps a comfort toy for the lunchtime break, as mentioned above. For maximum comfort and to protect your daughter’s back, it’s a good idea to choose a bag with wide, padded straps. These should be adjusted to your child’s build. When properly adjusted, the straps hold the bag in the ideal position and distribute its weight evenly. Finding a lightweight and comfortable bag is a first step — the girls’ school bag must also be practical and ergonomic. Your daughter should be able to open and close it independently, just like a grown-up.
Plush Backpack for Girls
Here is a plush backpack for girls with a dual purpose: toy and bag in one! More than just a bag, it’s also a cuddly soft toy! The Little Girl plush backpack is the perfect companion for little girls looking for an adorable school bag. This model is made from nylon — sturdy and long-lasting! Plus, to withstand daily wear and tear throughout the year, it features reinforced seams. Its small size and feather-light weight make it perfect for taking all her little treasures to school or even on family outings.
Unicorn School Bag for Girls
What little girl hasn’t dreamed of having her very own unicorn, especially for nursery? That’s exactly what this backpack is all about. Little Pirates offers 3 models of unicorn school bag, available in several colours. Its 26 cm size makes it the perfect model for carrying snacks.
Robot Backpack for Little Girls
Available in 4 models, each in a different colour, the robot backpack is perfect for storing your daughter’s things at nursery. Its 31 cm size is standard and perfectly suited to everyday use.
The Key Criteria for Choosing a Girls’ School Bag
Shape and Weight of the Girls’ School Bag
These are important factors to consider when buying a school bag. First of all, the shape of the bag must be suited to your daughter’s size: the width of the bag should not exceed her shoulder width. Bear in mind that the weight of the bag should not exceed 10% of the child’s body weight (e.g. the average weight of a primary school child is 22 kg, so her full bag should weigh no more than 2.2 kg). This is still not always the case today: children can generally manage around 20% of their body weight. It is therefore essential to choose the lightest bag possible.
Material Selection
To avoid having to replace the backpack after just a few months, choose a sturdy bag made from durable materials, with reinforced corners and seams, and a rigid base. The most common materials are polyester, coated canvas and leather. As a general rule, avoid PVC, which may contain DEHP and pose a real risk to children. Polyester is a lightweight material, less durable than leather but more affordable, flexible and comfortable. Polyester is also very easy to care for and keeps its shape well. Recycled Polyester, or RPET, is a material that combines the effectiveness of polyester with an eco-conscious commitment. Coated canvas is an ideal material for children, as it is highly resilient. Like polyester, coated canvas is less expensive than leather. Leather is a sturdy, high-quality material with a vintage look and beautiful finish. A leather bag can be passed down from one generation to the next! For greater comfort, it’s wise to choose a bag with a padded back. For the fastening, we recommend opting for sturdy zip closures or solid metal or plastic buckles. Since the bag is opened and closed regularly, avoid fasteners that scratch and wear out too quickly, trap dust and fluff, and gradually lose their effectiveness.
Straps
The weight of the school bag rests mainly on your child’s shoulders. It is therefore important to choose ergonomic, adjustable straps. For greater comfort, opt for short, wide and padded straps. Properly positioned on the shoulders, they distribute the weight of the bag evenly and prevent rubbing. Be sure to also adjust the length of the straps properly. Remember that the bag should sit snugly against your child’s back.
Girls’ School Bags: The Little Extras That Make All the Difference
Double Compartment
The further along your child gets in her school journey, the more supplies she has to carry. Buying a two-compartment bag is very useful for separating copybooks, folders and textbooks from smaller supplies like a pencil case or ruler.
Girls’ Pencil Case – Reflective Strips
Safety must come first, especially if your child walks to school. Prioritise a model with reflective strips to keep your child visible at night.
Water-Resistant Material: Avoiding Nasty Surprises
Also, make sure to check that the model you choose is fully waterproof. This effectively protects school supplies from rain and moisture.
